Bats 9, Clippers 7

COLUMBUS – The Louisville Bats jumped on Clippers starter Shao-Ching Chiang with both feet, scoring five runs before Chiang was able to get a single out in the fifth inning on the way to a 9-7 win over Columbus Tuesday in the second game of a series at Louisville Slugger Field.

Chiange (0-2) gave up eight runs in four innings, including back-to-back RBI doubles to Christian Colon and Josh VanMeter followed by a three-run home run by Juan Graterol to give the Bats and 8-4 lead.

The Clippers mounted a rally with a leadoff homer by Eric Haase in the sixth inning and a two-run single by Trayce Thompson in the seventh but Louisville kept the visitors at bay, giving Keury Mella (1-1) the win.

The two teams play Game 3 of their series Wednesday morning.
