Battle of Ohio: Reds 8, Indians 3

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Mat Latos pitched seven shutout innings and chipped in with a hit as the Reds opened a seven-game home stand with an 8-3 win over the Indians on Wednesday night.

It was the third game of the four-game “Battle of Ohio” home-and-home series, which concludes Thursday night. The Reds have won two of the first three games.

Zack Cozart hit a three-run homer off the left-field foul pole and Kristopher Negron added a two-run shot as the Reds won for the third time in four games.

Latos (4-3), making his 10th start since opening the season on the disabled list and being activated on June 14, allowed just one baserunner past second base before Yan Gomes led off Cleveland’s three-run eighth with his 16th homer.

Danny Salazar (4-5) lasted four innings while seeing his personal winning streak snapped at a career-high three.

The Indians optioned Salazar to the Clippers the loss and recalled right-hander C.C. Lee.
