Bauer hurls ball over fence in frustration in 9-6 loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Indians wasted a 5-3 lead and a three-run homer by Carlos Santana and Trevor Bauer imploded in a 9-6 loss to the Royals.

In a startling scene, Bauer suddenly heaved the ball from just past the mound over the center field wall while being taken out of the game by manager Terry Francona during the five-run fifth inning.

Bauer said he had been frustrated, and apologized for his actions in a statement after the game.

Nicky Lopez hit a two-run single in the fifth, Ryan O’Hearn drove in a pair and Jorge Soler smacked a solo homer for the Royals.
