COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s 56-0 mauling of Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday wasn’t enough to vault them into the top three of the Bowl Championship Series standings released Sunday night.
The Buckeyes (9-0, 5-0) still sits fourth behind Alabama, Florida State and Oregon. The Seminoles jumped idle Oregon after defeating Miami, which slipped from seventh to 11th. Stanford rounds out the top five.
The Buckeyes are now riding a 21-game winning streak.
Braxton Miller threw for 233 yards and four touchdowns in the lopsided win over the Boilermakers.
Coach Urban Meyer, who hasn’t lost in 34½ months, tied his personal best by winning a 22nd straight game, a streak that includes his final victory at Florida. Meyer also won 22 in a row with the Gators in 2008-09.
Arizona State makes its debut in this season’s rankings at number-22 after 21st-ranked Michigan dropped out in the wake of a loss to Michigan State. Texas Tech is barely inside the top 25 in the final spot after losing its second straight games and dropping 10 positions.
