Beer at $8 an ounce

COLUMBUS – Central Ohio beer connoisseurs once again have a chance to buy a taste of one of the most highly-prized American beers, priced at nearly $200 a bottle.

Kroger is making 36 bottles of Sam Adams Utopias available to customers in central and northwest Ohio who are fortunate enough to win a lottery for the opportunity to pay $189 for a 24-ounce bottle of the coveted “extreme barrel-aged beer,” or about $7.88 per ounce, the grocery store chain announced last week.

Thru Dec. 6, customers over the age of 21 can visit 25 select Kroger locations in central Ohio to enter to win a chance to buy a bottle.

Utopias has a 28 percent alcohol content by volume and was first made available in Ohio last year after the lifting of the cap on alcohol by volume in beer.
