COLUMBUS – Columbus police have released the body camera video of an arrest downtown Monday which was caught on cellphone camera and distributed via social media.
The Columbus Division of Police was made aware of a cell phone video that was posted on Facebook showing the arrest of an individual near Long and High Street on July 16, 2018…the arresting officer’s body worn camera video [shows] the arrest in its entirety. –Columbus Div. of Police release

The police report states that officers saw the suspect consume alcohol from an open container near the intersection of Long and High Streets at approximately 8:00 p.m. Monday and, when an officer asked the suspect for his ID, he refused, according to a report on WBNS 10-TV.
The officer told him he was being placed under arrest for failing to identify himself but the suspect pulled away and was placed on the ground and struck once to the face. When the suspect began to resist the suspect was Tased by the officer and treated by medics, the television station reported.
The suspect was arrested for resisting arrest, failure to disclose personal information and open container, police said.
As with any use of force, police say an internal review is underway.
