Bomb threat forces evacuation at Dublin nursing home

COLUMBUS – A Columbus man was arrested after Dublin police say he caused a bomb scare and evacuation at a Dublin assisted-living facility late Monday night.

Robert Hackler, 29, is charged with burglary and inducing panic after police say he broke into The Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing, 4880 Tuttle Road, at 11:45 p.m. Monday and claimed to have an explosive device, City of Dublin public affairs director Lindsay Weisenauer said.

Recordings of calls to 911 indicated the man broke in through a window, claimed to have a bomb and locked himself in a bathroom (hear audio below).

More than 30 residents were evacuated and moved to a nearby location while police searched the facility with the assistance of bomb-detecting dogs and found no evidence of an explosive, Weisenauer said.

Police declared the building safe around 2:00 a.m. and the residents were returned to the facility.

The Washington Township Fire Department, police from Columbus, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Ohio State University Police Division and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers assisted Dublin police in the response to the incident.
