Colton Angus wandered away from his house along the Licking River in Newtown Township, north of Newark, the Licking County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say search and rescue crews scoured the area for the missing boy. The Ohio State Highway Patrol provided air support.

Divers found the boy’s body nearly two hours later in the river. He was found about 55 feet offshore in about nine feet of water.

Deputies say attempts to revive him failed.
