Braves 5, Clippers 4

COLUMBUS – The Clippers dropped the opening game of their Governor’s Cup semifinal series to Gwinnett, 5-4, Wednesday night.

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the 9th inning, catcher Guillermo Quiroz mashed a two-run homer run over the wall in left-center field to make it a one run game, but it would not be enough as Gwinnett held on for the win in front of an audience of 8,696.

Reid Brignac’s two-run 8th inning homer for Gwinnett combined with an insurance run in the 9th ended up being enough to win the game

Madison Younginer (1-0) earned the win in relief for the G-Braves while Austin Adams (0-1) suffered the loss for the Clippers.

The Clippers and Braves will meet again Thursday night in game two of the series at 6:35 p.m. in the Arena District.
