COLUMBUS, Ohio – A lack of timely hitting by the Clippers contributed to a 6-1 loss to the Gwinnett Braves Thursday night in the opening game of a four-game weekend series at Huntington Park.
Clippers hitters got nine hits off Braves pitchers, but stranded six runners and went 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position.
The Braves got four runs off losing pitcher Tony Murata (2-1) in the first six innings while the Clippers could muster one for the game, which came when a Tyler Holt single to left field scored Adam Moore, who reached third base on a throwing error.
The two teams match up again in Game 2 Friday night.
