DENVER – The Browns dropped their fourth straight game with a 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Cleveland is a team searching for answers as they drop to 2-6 after entering the season with high hopes. The question becomes whether the Browns, and even the most loyal Clevelanders, will remain patient with head coach Freddie Kitchens.
Brandon Allen, a quarterback who never had thrown a pass since entering the league in 2016,
led the Broncos in his first NFL start. The fourth-year pro from Arkansas who was claimed off waivers from the Rams two months ago got his chance when Joe Flacco went on IR with a neck injury.
Denver’s defense made two fourth-down stops and limited Baker Mayfield and the Browns to a single touchdown.
After the game, receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was not happy with a controversy involving cleats the league made him change.
Beckham and Jarvis Landry wore colorful cleats in the first half, but the NFL made them switch at halftime.
The Browns decided last week to wear brown jerseys instead of white, so their customized white Nikes were deemed in violation of the league’s dress code.
After the game, Landry explained that Nike made the shoes so the players assumed the NFL had sigfned off on the color.
