CLEVELAND – Dick Schafrath, who blocked for Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly as an All-Pro tackle for the Browns, played on one of Woody Hayes’ national championship teams at Ohio State and served in the Ohio Senate, has died at 84.
The Browns said Schafrath died on Sunday night. No cause of death was given.
Schafrath was a 1958 team captain for the Buckeyes and also played on the Buckeyes’ 1957 national championship team.
After he stopped playing in 1971, Schafrath was an assistant coach with Washington on coach George Allen’s staff before entering politics and serving four terms as a state senator, serving north central Ohio

Schafrath graduated from Ohio State with a bachelor of science degree in 2006 at the age of 69.
