COLUMBUS – Days after a 31-0 loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl and a vow to improve the Buckeyes’ passing game, head coach Urban Meyer reached into the ranks of the NFL to bring one of his former assistants to Columbus.
Ryan Day (above), who served as quarterbacks coach under Chip Kelly this past season for the San Francisco 49ers and two years ago for the Philadelphia Eagles, will take over as Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach, replacing Tim Beck, who was hired to become the offensive coordinator at Texas on the staff of former Buckeye assistant Tom Herman.
A graduate assistant coach during Meyer’s first season at Florida, Day has spent two years in the NFL and 10 seasons as a Division I assistant coach at Temple, Boston College and New Hampshire.
He also worked with Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert in 2016 with the 49ers and he helped Sam Bradford to a record-setting 2015 season with the Eagles.
