Buckeye, Nittany Lions offenses take center stage

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State and Penn State will meet with the two top scoring offenses in the nation.

(4) OSU (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) at (9) Penn St. (4-0, 1-0): Beaver Stadium, State College, Pa. (Sat. 7:30 p.m./ABC)

The No. 9 Nittany Lions average 55.5 points per game and the No. 4 Buckeyes are just 1 point behind.

Penn State has recorded 31 touchdowns, two more than Ohio State.

It will be the first time two Big Ten teams have played each other as the nation’s two top scorers since 1962.

Ohio State newcomer Dwayne Haskins is one of the nation’s most accurate passers, completing 75.7 percent of his throws, which is second only only to Eastern Michigan’s Tyler Wiegers.

Penn State’s Trace McSorley has a 53.8 percent completion percentage and is second in the Big Ten to Haskins in points responsible for and passing touchdowns.

The last two meetings between the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes have been decided by a total of four points and neither team leading at the start of the fourth quarter was leading at the end.

Nittany Lions fans plan a “whiteout” inside 106,572-seat Beaver Stadium, where Ohio State lost on its last visit and which head coach Urban Meyer considers one of the “top five” venues where his teams have played.

“Very loud and the fans are into it, a lot like our Horseshoe so you got to be ready for that kind of environment,” he said.

Meyer is 2-1 at State College during his tenure at Ohio State with the 2014 win coming in overtime.
