Buckeye QB Burrow to transfer

COLUMBUS – Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow says he will transfer, apparently clearing the way for Dwayne Haskins Jr. to take over the job of starting quarterback in the fall.

Burrow tweeted that he would leave the Buckeyes to “explore other options.” He said he would decide on a new school in the coming weeks.

Because he graduated from Ohio State, he can transfer and play immediately as a graduate student without having to sit out a year.

This article has been corrected to show that Haskins will be a third-year sophomore during the 2018 season.

Haskins is third-year sophomore from Potomac, Md., with what some say is an NFL-caliber arm. He was rated among the top five prop-style quarterback prospects in his class and made a good showing when he took over for an injured J.T Barrett during the regular-season finale against arch-rival Michigan, completing 6 of 7 pass attempts for 94 yards.

He gained another 24 on the ground, almost all of them on a 22-yard run to the Michigan 1-yard line, which set up a touchdown in the third quarter that put the Buckeyes ahead to stay in the 31-20 win.
