Buckeyes #6 in playoff rankings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes took a couple of steps forward in the latest College Football Playoff rankings and have gone from being on the fringe to peeping over the edge into the promised land.

Ohio State (9-1, 6-0) moved up from No.8 to No. 6 in the standings which will determine which four teams play for college football’s national title.

Alabama has moved from fifth to first with Saturday’s 25-20 win over Mississippi State, which fell from first to fourth. Alabama has won five in a row since a 23-17 loss to Mississippi Oct. 4.

Oregon is second, unbeaten Florida State is third and TCU is fifth.

Michigan State (8-2), which Ohio State beat on Nov. 8 was ranked No. 11 and Minnesota (7-3), beaten by the Buckeyes on Saturday, was still on the list at No. 25. Wisconsin (8-2) – a potential opponent for the Buckeyes in the Big Ten championship game Dec. 6 – is ranked 16th.
