Buckeyes fall in poll despite win

COLUMBUS – The Buckeyes’ victory over Army Saturday was a nice way to recover from the loss to Oklahoma the week before but did nothing to impress the pollsters.

Ohio State (2-1, 1-0) dropped to No. 10 in the latest AP Top 25 and remained at No. 9 in the coaches poll after the 38-7 win over the Black Knights.

Clemson moved up to No. 2 in The Associated Press poll, displacing the Sooners and closing in on Alabama after beating a team ranked in the Top 15 for the second straight week. The Tigers beat Louisville 47-21 on the road.

Alabama remains No. 1. Oklahoma, Penn State and USC rounded out the top five in both polls.

Oklahoma State jumped three spots in the AP survey, which helped knock the Buckeyes down two spots. Besides the Cowboys, Wisconsin and Penn State were the only other teams in the Top 10 to advance.

The Buckeyes host UNLV this Saturday (Noon/BTN).

Freshman J.K. Dobbins was been named Big Ten co-freshman of the week for his efforts in the victory over Army. He rushed for 172 yards on just 13 carries for a 13.2-yards-per-carry average, and scored two touchdowns, including a 52-yarder in the third quarter.
