Buckeyes hit Oregon trail

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes go west to take on Virginia-Commonwealth in the second round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Seeded 10th in the West Region, OSU (23-10) will play the 7th-seeded Rams (26-9) Thursday in Portland, Ore. (approx. 4:40 p.m./TNT).

Ohio State was ousted in the Big Ten quarterfinals by Michigan State and was 4-4 in its final eight games.

But the Buckeyes are dangerous because of D’Angelo Russell and his 19.3 points per game.

VCU won only five of its last 11 regular-season games but got hot in the Atlantic 10 tournament, beating Dayton in the title game.

The winner could find themselves facing No. 2 seed Arizona.

Wisconsin, which beat Michigan State in overtime for the Big Ten tournament championship, is the top seed in the West Region. Kentucky is the overall top seed in the field. Villanova and Duke are the other top seeds.
