Buckeyes jump to #4

COLUMBUS – As expected, losses by Oklahoma and LSU helped the Buckeyes move up in the major college football polls more than their own drubbing of Bowling Green.

Ohio State (1-0) is No. 4 in both the AP Top 25 media poll and the Amway coaches’ poll.

Alabama strengthened its hold on the No. 1 spot both polls after routing Southern Cal 52-6 in the season opener Saturday. Clemson stays at No. 2, while Florida State moved up a spot to third.

Michigan is ranked fifth in the AP poll while Stanford takes that spot in the coaches’ poll

Ohio State’s Sept. 17 opponent, Oklahoma fell to 14th in the AP poll and 13th in the coaches’ poll. The Sooners had been ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll but their upset loss to Houston vaulted the Cougars nine spots to sixth in the AP poll, followed by Stanford, Washington and Georgia.

Houston is seventh in the coaches’ poll, right behind Michigan, followed by Michigan State, Georgia and Iowa in the top 10.

Wisconsin was unranked last week but after beating then-No. 5 LSU, the Badgers round out the top 10 in the AP poll while only making it to 16th in the coaches’ poll.
