C.J. Jackson led three Buckeyes in double figures with 18 points. Kaleb Wesson added 15 and Keyshawn Woods scored 10.
Galen Robinson scored 13 points for Houston, which advanced to play Kentucky.
The Cougars won their 33rd game of the season, breaking a tie with the 1983-84 team for the most wins in a season in school history.
It will be the program’s first trip to the Sweet 16 since that 1983-84 squad reached the national final.
The NCAA Tournament has the top three seeds in each round in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009. There are 14 top-four seeds in the Sweet 16.
