COLUMBUS – The Ohio State/Oklahoma matchup on Saturday night will be a first for broadcasting technology.
According to a report in Columbus Business First, Fox Sports has chosen the game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Columbus time, as its first attempt at broadcasting a live sporting event in virtual reality without special equipment.
The newspaper reports that 95 million users will be eligible to watch the game through the network’s Fox Sports VR app, using technology from New York-based LiveLike VR.
Viewers can watch with mobile-phone VR equipment such as Gear VR or Google Cardboard, or without any special equipment.
Fox said it plans to use the technology on multiple games this year.
