COLUMBUS – The Buckeyes remain near the top of both major college football polls after making creamed Cornhuskers out of previously undefeated Nebraska on Saturday.

Ohio State was ranked No. 5 in the Amway coaches’ poll, up one spot from last week, and No. 6 in the AP Top 25 after its 62-3 win over Nebraska.

Head coach Urban Meyer said after the game that the outcome took him by surprise but he saw it as a sign of his young team maturing.

“We’ve all been around this sport long enough that the youth, when that youth grows up it’s kind of cool to watch. And I’m hoping that’s what’s happening here,” he said.

“I’m not saying it is yet, because we’ve still got a lot left,” Meyer added.

Alabama held onto the top spot in both polls after beating LSU in Baton Rouge, Michigan and Clemson were second and third in the AP media poll but their order was reversed in the coaches’ survey, followed by 9-0 Washington, which is likely to replace Texas A&M in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings when they are released Tuesday night.

The Aggies tumbled in both polls after losing to Mississippi State, 35-28.
