COLUMBUS, Ohio – Upsets in the Top 10 allowed the Buckeyes to move up in both major college football polls.
Ohio State (4-1, 1-0) is at No. 15 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today polls.
The Florida State Seminoles and Auburn are No. 1 and No.2 in both surveys while Mississippi and Mississippi State are tied for third in the AP poll after Ole Miss upset Alabama and the Bulldogs knocked off Texas A&M.
Baylor completes the AP’s top five and is ranked third in the coaches’ poll where Ole Miss and Notre Dame round out the top five.
The Buckeyes made a statement at Maryland on Saturday, piling up 533 yards on the way to a 52-24 win in the Terrapins’ Big Ten home debut.
J.T. Barrett completed 18 of 23 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns and also ran 16 times for 71 yards and a score. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 139 yards on 24 carries, and the defense had four interceptions to hush the first sellout crowd at College Park in nearly six years.
Ohio State scored on drives lasting 3:01, 3:27, 1:18, 1:46 and 0:05 to take a 31-10 halftime lead. The Buckeyes have scored 168 points in three wins since losing to Virginia Tech.
