Buidling owner charged in deaths of 2 firefighters

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – Funeral services was held for two Toledo firefighters killed in an apartment building fire allegedly set by the owner.

Hundreds of people watched the procession after Saturday’s private service for Stephen Machcinski, 42. His casket was covered by an American flag and was carried on a fire truck.

According to The Toledo Blade, the bells tolled at Grace Lutheran Church as the procession passed.

The funeral for rookie firefighter James Dickman, 31, was held Friday in Sandusky.

Investigators charged 61-year-old Ray Abou-Arab with two counts each of aggravated murder and arson in the fire.

Court documents say an apartment resident saw the fire break out Sunday just after the building’s owner left a garage on the site.

He was held at the Lucas County jail to await a court hearing Monday. No attorney was listed for him in the court docket Saturday.
