COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Governor’s Cup semifinal series between the Clippers and Durham moves to North Carolina tied at a game apiece after the Bulls rallied to nip Columbus 4-3 in 10 innings Thursday night at Huntington Park.
Trailing 3-2 in the ninth, the Bulls’ Mike Fontenot delivered a single to right that scored pinch-runner Ray Olmedo with the tying run.
After a scoreless bottom of the ninth for Columbus, Cole Figueroa led off the 10th with a triple to center field, and scored three batters later when Tim Beckham hit a sacrifice fly to center.
Adam Liberatore retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to earn the save.
The Clippers had taken a 3-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run single by Giovanny Urshela. The Clippers’ Audy Ciriaco hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning for the game’s first run.
Josh Lueke (1-0) picked up the victory in relief for Durham while Tyler Sturdevant (0-1) suffered the loss.
The series shifts to Durham for Game Three at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
