COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus Public Health targets neighborhoods at all points of the compass as the campaign against the West Nile virus finds a new gear this week.
Crews are scheduled to be out every morning of the week, beginning Tuesday, fogging areas with high mosquito counts to prevent the disease from spreading. The spraying takes place between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Weekly spraying areas are determined by mosquito trap results and reports from field staff, taking into consideration the number and type of mosquitoes trapped, infected mosquitoes and any evidence of human disease.
On Tuesday morning, spraying was carried out in two Linden neighborhoods, around Westerville and Morse Roads. Crews also treated parts of the Northland area and the Northeast Side, around state Route 161, Morse Road, Karl Road and Cherry Bottom Road.
Tuesday’s spraying also targeted the Near North Side and University District, bounded by E. Hudson Street on the north, Chittenden Avenue on the south, Big Four Street on the east and N High Street on the West.
