COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Westerville man charged with shooting his ex-wife and a man she was with inside a Hocking Hills cabin Saturday night shot himself during a standoff with police in a Fayette County motel early Monday morning, according to Hocking County Sheriff Lanny North.
Michael Napoli, 33, was charged with aggravated murder in the shooting death of James Boergers Jr. 31, of Jacksonville, Fla., and attempted aggravated murder in the death of Kimberly Napoli, 32, of Westerville as a result of the shooting at a cabin on state Route 678 in Hocking County, North said.
Michael Napoli was also charged with aggravated burglary.
North says the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office notified his office Sunday night that Michael Napoli’s van had been located at the Econo Lodge Motel at 9060 W. Lancaster Road. in Jeffersonville.
A clerk confirmed from a photo that Napoli was registered at the motel and a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office negotiator contacted Napoli, trying to talk him into surrendering, according to a post on the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
At approximately 6:15 Monday morning, after several hours of negotiations, deputies gained entry into the room and found Napoli suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where there was no immediate word on his condition.
