COLUMBUS, Ohio – The City of Columbus is providing free bulk trash drop-off locations for the OSU campus area to help keep it clean during the days between now and Aug. 17 when students vacate off-campus apartments.
The OSU area is the most densely populated section of Columbus with close to 50,000 residents and, as leases expire, furniture and other large items are thrown out prior to students moving in for the fall semester, says Tracie Davies, director of the city’s Department of Public Service.
The area included is within the following boundaries:
North: Glen Echo Ravine
South: 5th Avenue
East: Conrail railroad tracks east of North 4th Street
West: The Olentangy River
EXTRA: Map and list of drop-off locations
The free drop-off locations are available now through Aug. 17, Davies said, and residents can also schedule bulk pickup by calling 645-3111.
Regular scheduled weekly trash pickup in the campus will be done on Tuesdays during the move-out/move-in effort and crews will be working in the alleys three days a week to reduce the amount of refuse in the area, Davies said.
Anyone unable to take bulk trash to a drop-off- site should contact the city’s 311 Customer Service Center at 645-3111 or go online. Information is also available on the Department of Public Service’s Facebook site and on Twitter.
Davies says used furniture in good, clean condition can be donated to Furniture Bank of Central Ohio by calling 614-272-9544. The Furniture Bank distributes the furniture, free of charge, to families in need.
Bulk collection reminders:
The city will only collect bulk trash at the 16 drop-off-sites; other types of waste will not be accepted
Do not place bulk trash in or next to regular refuse containers
Do not leave bulk trash in alleys
