Campus warning after assault

COLUMBUS – Ohio State University officials have issued a safety advisory after a female student was assaulted over the weekend.

According to a bulleting from the university’s emergency management agency, the woman was alone when she was pulled into a dark area and sexually assaulted between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m. Sunday near the North Campus Residential District and the construction site near Lane Avenue.

The unknown male suspect is described as college age, with blond hair, and wearing blue jeans.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact either the University Police at 614-292-2121 or Columbus Police at 614-645-4545.

Information may be reported anonymously to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS or the University Crime Stoppers Tips line at 614-247-TIPS.

University safety officials are reminding students to be cautious and look out for one another, be aware of their surroundings, look assertive and walk with a trusted friend or co-worker when possible.

If a situation makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe, they should choose an alternative.

Students, faculty and staff members are encouraged to use transportation services when possible and take advantage of additional safety resources, such as the student escort service.
