COLUMBUS – Two Ohio newspapers are reporting that Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones was taken to the hospital because of a headache last night.

The Columbus Dispatch cited unnamed sources who said Jones was dealing with a migraine. Jones’ former coach, Ted Ginn, Sr., confirmed the news.

Jones’ mother, Florence, told the Toledo Blade her son was taken to an emergency room and that he should be fine.

“Cardale Jones was examined last night at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. He was released from the center following the examination and he is doing fine today,” said Athletics Department spokesman Jerry Emig in a statement.

Jones is competing with J.T. Barrett to be the top-ranked Buckeyes’ starter when they open the season Monday night at Virginia Tech.

Head coach Urban Meyer told reporters earlier in the day that he had “an idea” which player would start, but didn’t divulge any more, though he did repeat his desire to see both players get some time.

“When you have a good player, what do you do with him? You play him,” Meyer said. “So we’re going to play both quarterbacks at some point.”

Jones took over as Ohio State’s starter last year after J.T. Barrett broke his ankle in the regular-season finale against Michigan. Jones helped the Buckeyes beat Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game and Alabama and Oregon in the College Football Playoff to win the national title.
