ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Cam Atkinson scored twice and the Blue Jackets stretched their winning streak to 15 games by stopping Minnesota’s 12-game run with a 4-2 victory over the Wild Saturday night.
Columbus pulled into a tie with the 1981-82 Islanders for the second-longest winning streak in NHL history, two behind the record held by the 1992-93 Islanders.
The Jackets carried a 1-0 lead into the second period before Jack Johnson and Atkinson scored 15 seconds apart early in the stanza. Seth Jones restored the Blue Jackets’ three-goal lead later in the period after Mikael Grandlund got the Wild on the board.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 shots for the Blue Jackets, who take on the Oilers at Columbus on Tuesday.
Devan Dubnyk stopped 21 shots, surrendering four goals for the second straight game.
Should the Jackets beat Edmonton, they would travel to Washington to take on the Capitals with a chance to match the league’s longest winning streak.
