Sergei Bobrovsky had 25 saves for the Blue Jackets, who beat the Capitals for the first time in four tries this season.
Artemi Panarin, Sonny Milano and Mark Letestu also scored for Columbus.
Alex Ovechkin had the only goal for the Capitals.
