COLUMBUS – The life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King will be celebrated Monday with a variety of events, including the annual breakfast and march in Columbus.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the breakfast, the city’s signature King holiday event and the largest event of its kind in the nation honoring the slain civil rights leader.
The keynote speaker will be Michael Coleman (right), the first African-American mayor of Columbus and its longest-serving, holding the officer from 2000 until 2015.
The program also includes performances by three choirs and speeches by student orators.

The 2017 MLK Celebration and March begins at 4:00 p.m. at East High School, 1500 E. Broad Street. The march begins on Taylor Avenue at 4:30 p.m. and proceeds east on Long Street, south on Woodland Avenue and went on Broad Street back to the school.
The event’s keynote address will be delivered by Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie (above) of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
