CINCINNATI (AP) — An Alabama man has been indicted in southwest Ohio on charges stemming from his apparent heroin overdose in a children’s hospital room where his wife had an apparent overdose that was fatal.
A Hamilton County grand jury indictment charges Wesley Landers with heroin possession, possessing drug abuse instruments and carrying a concealed weapon. He has been jailed on similar charges since Jan. 7.
Police say he and Mary Ann Landers were found unconscious at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where their 7-month-old daughter had undergone surgery for a congenital throat problem.
Landers is from Trinity, Alabama. Court documents say he had a heroin syringe in his arm and a loaded .22-caliber handgun in his pants pocket.
He’s being held on $400,000 bond. His attorney hasn’t returned a call placed Friday seeking comment.
