Child recovered after Amber Alert

COLUMBUS – A man who took his 1-year-old son by force from the boy’s Akron home early Wednesday morning, prompting a statewide Amber Alert, is facing multiple charges after the child was recovered safely.

Darrius R. Heard, 27, of Akron, is wanted for aggravated burglary, kidnapping and domestic violence. – Akron Police Dept.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Darius Rashaad Heard on charges of kidnapping, domestic violence and aggravated burglary in connection with the abduction of Darius R. Heard, Jr., according to Akron police records. The older Heard does not have custody of his son.

Police say Heard, 27, took his son from an apartment on Callis Oval, on the city’s Southeast Side at 4:26 a.m. and dropped him off at the boy’s grandparents’ house in Akron. The child was reported recovered at 8:23 a.m.

Heard is described as 6’1”/195 lbs. with short brown hair and a goatee and was wearing gray shorts and a black Nike jacket.

He was last seen in an apparently rented silver Chevy Sonic with an unknown Texas license plate.
