COLUMBUS – A trio of homicides in a little over 12 hours on Thursday brought the total for the year in Columbus to 51.
RELATED: A man shot on a Northeast Side street corner is homicide No. 51 for 2018
One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting on the East Side at approximately 1:11 a.m. and man stabbed his roommate to death during an argument in their Far East Side apartment about three hours later, Homicide Unit third shift supervisor Sgt. Jeff Strayer said.
Paul Michael Leith Green was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a vehicle in front of a home in the 900 block of Studer Avenue by officers called to the area on the report of a shooting, Strayer said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by one crew of Columbus fire paramedics while a second unit took a second victim, whose identity is being withheld, to a hospital for treatment.
Strayer says detectives have determined that Green, 22, and the other man had arranged to meet a third party at the location when a fight broke out resulting in the shootings.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
About three hours later, officers called to an apartment in the Hibernia Apartments on Hibernia Drive on a report of a stabbing found Kendrick Wilkerson lying inside, suffering from numerous stab wounds, Strayer said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Wilkerson, 27, was involved in a dispute with his roommate, Anthony C.L. Wofford III, which escalated into a physical altercation and ended with Wilkerson being stabbed several times by Wofford, 26 who was taken into custody, questioned by detectives and charged with murder, Strayer said.
The investigation continues.
