COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus could be playing host to several national championship sporting events over the next five years.
NCAA officials have named the city a finalist for eight championships, including hockey, women’s volleyball and swimming and diving.
Ohio State would host seven of the events, while Ohio Dominican would host women’s basketball tournament games.
The respective sports committees will select the winning sites, which will be announced on Dec. 11.
Columbus submitted 30 bids for 13 events in eight sports in multiple years and is tied for the second-most finalist selections of any city in the country with eight.
The eight events include the NCAA Frozen Four, Women’s Volleyball Championships and the Division II Women’s Basketball Elite Eight.
Columbus also helped Ohio have the most selections of any state with 24.
