City sets $15 minimum wage for workers

COLUMBUS – Some of the nearly 9,000 employees of Ohio’s largest city are getting a raise.

All of the city’s 8,498 permanent full-time workers are now earning at least $15 an hour, Mayor Andrew Ginther (pictured above, at left of podium) and City Council president pro tem Elizabeth Brown (at podium) announced Wednesday.

Ginther said he called on all the heads of city departments to make sure that the minimum wage was in effect by 2020 and the goal was met ahead of schedule.

“Closing the wage gap has been a top priority for my administration. As one of the city’s biggest employers, I knew Columbus had an opportunity to lead by example,” said Mayor Ginther

The minimum wage for more than 1,000 Franklin County employees was boosted to $15 an hour this summer.
