COLUMBUS, Ohio – One was all they needed and that was what the Clippers got Tuesday night: A 3-1 victory over the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field that clinched the International League West Division title for Columbus.
It is their first division title since 2011.
With the scored tied at 1 in the top of the seventh, Ian Krol took the mound in relief of Derek Hankins who had loaded the bases on two walks and a single to Matt Carson, and promptly walked Luke Carlin to score Carlos Moncrief with the tying run.
Carson scored the winning run on a Ryan Rohlinger sacrifice fly to center, another run credited to Hankins (7-14), who took the loss for Toledo.
Zach McAllister (7-1) got the win for the Clippers who took a seven-game lead over the Indianapolis Indians with six games left to play.
Columbus and Toledo finish their two-game series in Toledo Wednesday night before the Clippers move on to Indianapolis for three games, then close out the regular season at home against the Mud Hens.
