Clinton: Different day, same Trump

CLEVELAND – Campaigning in Ohio Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton offered a tax plan as an alternative to one put forth by her opponent and also scoffed at Donald Trump’s recent campaign staff shakeup

Clinton says Trump’s decision to shake up his campaign staff will have little impact on his controversial political message.

“There is no new Donald Trump,” she said

Earlier this week, Trump hired Stephen Bannon — the executive chairman of the conservative and Trump-friendly website Breitbart — and pollster Kellyanne Conway to stabilize his campaign.

Clinton told supporters at a rally at John Marshall High School in Cleveland that Trump “can hire and fire anyone he wants.” But, she said, “he is still the same man who insults gold star families, demeans women mocks people with disabilities, and thinks he knows more about (the terror group Islamic State) than our generals.”

Contrasting her tax plan with Trump’s, she says his would provide trillions of dollars in tax breaks via a “Trump loophole,” including $4 billion for the real estate mogul’s family.

Her campaign speculated on what that money could be used for in Ohio: “We could build 280 new elementary schools. We could eliminate the outstanding student loan of 166,000 Ohioans. We could provide health care to 370,000 veterans. And we could sure rebuild every crumbling bridge in this state.”

Clinton’s campaign touts her “100-Day Jobs Plan” which calls for increased spending on infrastructure, education and health care.

Both candidates are scheduled to speak to The American Legion convention in Cincinnati that begins Aug. 26.

The nonpartisan veterans service organization says Clinton will address the meeting Aug. 31 and Trump will follow on Sept. 1.
