Clinton touts American exceptionalism in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – Hillary Clinton tweaked rival Donald Trump’s decision to travel to Mexico and spoke up for the U.S. military and American “exceptionalism” in Cincinnati Wednesday.

Clinton brushed off Trump’s surprise visit to Mexico, after comments he has made about the country and its people, saying “it certainly takes more than trying to make up for a year of insults and insinuations by dropping in on our neighbors for a few hours and then flying home again.”

The Democratic presidential nominee adds, “That is not how it works.”

Clinton told the American Legion’s annual convention in Ohio that voters need to know that they can count on you.

Clinton used her first public event in days to portray her Republican opponent as a questionable leader who would, in the words of her campaign’s advance information, “walk away from our allies, undermine our values, insult our military — and has explicitly rejected the idea of American exceptionalism.”

“We are the indispensable nation,” she told the convention. “People all over the world look to us and follow our lead.”

Neither campaign will overlook Ohio over the long holiday weekend.

Trump will address the American Legion gathering and attend a rally in Wilmington on Friday.

Vice President Biden campaigns for Clinton in Warren and Parma Friday.

Clinton and running mate Tim Kaine will take their campaign to Cleveland on Labor Day.
