COLUMBUS – The Clippers needed some late-inning heroics to beat the Indianapolis Indians, 10-9, in 12 innings Tuesday night at Huntington Park, evening the three-game series between the two International League West Division rivals at one game apiece.
With the win the Clippers cut the Indians’ division lead to 2 1/2 games.
After Indy brushed off a ninth inning Clippers rally to score four in the top of the tenth, the Clippers did the same in the home half before winning it in the 12th.
Trailing 9-5, in the bottom of the tenth, Columbus scored on an Eric Stamets RBI groundout, a single by Yandy and and Eric Haase’s two-run double to tie the score again
Brandon Barnes won it for the Clippers in the 12th, driving in Stamets on a groundout off losing pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas (1-3).
Jon Edwards (2-1) got the win for Columbus.
The teams will conclude the series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Huntington Park.
