COLUMBUS – Eric Stamets hit a tie-breaking RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to give the Clippers a 2-1 win over Indianapolis at Victory Field Wednesday night in the opening game of a two-game series.
It was the fourth straight win for Columbus and opened a 5 ½-game lead over the Indians in the International League West.
Mark Mathias tied the score with a solo home run in the third.
Nick Sandlin (1-0) got the win in relief for Columbus.
Blake Weiman (0-1) took the loss for the Indians.
The two teams conclude the series Thursday.
