COLUMBUS – Mike Papi hit a tie-breaking RBI double to lead the Clippers to a 2-1 victory over the Rochester Red Wings Monday night in game one of a three-game series at Huntington Park.
Papi drove a two-out double off the right field wall to score Joe Sever for a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning.
Josh Tomlin, down from Cleveland on a rehab assignment, and Shao-Ching Chiang (4-3) combined for eight innings of one-run baseball, giving up only five hits before Evan Marshall took over to record his first save of the season.
Chase DeJong (0-2) took the loss for Rochester.
The two teams will be back at it Tuesday at Huntington Park for game two at 7:05 p.m.
