COLUMBUS – The Clippers kicked off a seven game road trip with a 4-1 win over the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field Monday night.
Columbus broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run base hit by Nellie Rodriguez.
After Yandy Diaz scored on a throwing error by Rochester shortstop Engelb Vielma, Rodriguez lined a single to center field, bringing Tyler Naquin and Ronny Rodriguez around to score.
Louis Head (2-0) came on in relief in the sixth inning and got the benefit of the Clippers’ rally to get the win.
Drew Rucinski (2-4) gave up the three Columbus runs in the eighth to take the loss.
The two teams play Game Two of the series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
