COLUMBUS – Anthony Gallas’s bloop single in the top of the 9th inning brought home the winning run as the Clippers began an eight-game road trip with a 4-3 win over Norfolk.
The Clippers took a 3-1 lead in the 8th on a 2-run home run into the left field picnic area by Jesus Aguilar but the Tides rallied back in the bottom of the inning, when things went south for reliever Trey Haley. He uncorked two wild pitches, a walk and a throwing error to help the Tides knot the score at 3-3.
Gallas blooped a single to center field to bring James Ramsey home with the winning run in the 9th.
Carlos Marmol (2-1) struck out Sean Halton with two runners on base in the bottom of the inning to end a Tides rally.
The two clubs continue their three-game series Thursday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05.
