CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Clippers avoided a four-game series sweep in Charlotte by beating the Knights 5-2 on Thursday in the finale of the series from BB&T Ballpark.
Eric Stamets hit a solo home to get Columbus on the board in the third inning.
On the heels of some miscues by the Knights defense, Columbus hitters hit back-to-back-to-back RBI base hits to put the game out of reach in the fifth.
Starter Jarrett Grube (4-5) earned the win, giving up two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings pitched.
The Knights won the first three games of the four-game series against the Clippers and were in search of the series sweep but starter Chris Volstad (2-6) gave up five runs over his 6 2/3 innings of work and took the loss.
The Clippers move on to Norfolk for a three-game series starting Friday night.
