COLUMBUS – Home runs by Trayce Thompson and Adam Rosales were enough offense to give the Clippers a win over the Toledo Mud Hens in the opening game of a three-game series at Huntington Park Tuesday night.
Thompson hit a two-run in the fourth inning, his 10th of the season, to give Columbus a 2-1 lead and Rosales added a solo shot in the fifth off losing pitcher Tyler Alexander (1-5) as the Clippers went on to win 5-2.
Thompson added an RBI single in the eighth, one of the Clippers’ two runs that inning that put the game out of reach.
Shao-Ching Chiang (2-3) gave up one run in five innings to get the win.
Game 2 of the series is Wednesday night.
