SCRANTON, Pa. – The Clippers walked away with a 5-0 victory in the opening game of a four-game series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at PNC Field Tuesday night.
It was the fourth win in a row for Columbus and the shutout loss extended the RailRiders’ scoreless innings streak to 19 innings.
Richie Shaffer accounted for three of the Clippers’ runs with a leadoff home run in the second inning and he hit an RBI single and scored a run the four-run third.
Julian Merryweather (1-0) tossed eight innings of four-hit ball in his debut with Columbus, striking out eight without walking a batter.
Domingo German (1-1) allowed five runs on seven hits in taking the loss.
The series continues with a doubleheader at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
