COLUMBUS – The Clippers bullpen held up against a late Norfolk rally and Columbus beat the Tides 5-4 Wednesday night at Huntington Park.
A three-run home run by Tim Federowicz in the fourth inning put the Clippers on the board and Ryan Flaherty added an important insurance run with a homer in the seventh as Columbus took a 5-1 lead.
The Tides jumped on reliever Brooks Pounders for three runs in the eighth but Pounders and R.C. Orlan knuckled down and preserved the win for Michael Peoples (2-0).
Keegan Akin (0-1) took the loss for the Tides.
The two teams wrap up their three-game series Thursday morning.
